Where the i8 fits in a self-service checkout project

The i8 is a 15.6 inch self-service checkout POS terminal built around an Android or Windows 10 image on a 1.7 GHz dual core CPU with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. It is a single-display kiosk terminal, not a dual-screen or handheld unit. You will use it where one customer-facing touchscreen handles the whole interaction: scan, pay, print or show a QR code.

If your deployment needs a second operator screen, look at our dual-screen POS terminals instead. The i8 ships with a capacitive touch screen, metal case and toughened glass panel. The page table lists optional parts: scanner, card reader, barcode reader, IC card reader, barcode printer and camera. We do not assume which of those you need. You tell us in the RFQ.

This model is often paired with our Android POS terminals for stores that already run an Android payment or loyalty app. The wall or floor stand mounting is part of the same order, so plan the counter layout early.

What to specify when you request the i8

Start with the operating system. The i8 lists Android and win10. Android is the common choice for self-service because the SDK and camera functions are simpler to lock down. Windows 10 is available if your software stack is already written for it. Next, list every peripheral you want: QR scanner, 58 mm printer, RFID NFC module, facial recognition camera, card reader or barcode reader. The i8 has an 8 MP camera for product scanning and facial recognition, but the page data does not treat any peripheral as default.

Tell us the screen size you need. The table lists 15.6, 18.5, 21.5, 24, 27 and 32 inch options. The i8 page is for the 15.6 inch version. If your kiosk needs a larger panel, say so and we will quote the same board set in the larger housing. Also specify mounting: wall mount or floor standing. That changes the stand, cable routing and packaging.

Send us your app requirements, not just the hardware list. We can preload your APK, set a custom launcher and disable the Android navigation bars. If you need Google Mobile Services removed or ADB left open for your integrator, put that in the same email.

Sibling models and when to switch

The i8 is one of several POS terminals we build. The HP1701S is a different form factor for counter staff. The HP-P1501 targets desktop touch use, not a fixed kiosk. The K11 and HP525 are also separate builds with their own screen and peripheral lists.

Choose the i8 when the customer stands in front of the terminal and does everything themselves. Choose a desktop or dual-screen model when a cashier still needs to intervene. The i8 does not include a second display or a cash drawer interface in the page data. If your store flow needs cash handling, you will have to add that through an external peripheral or pick a different model.

One limit to state plainly: the i8 is an information and payment terminal, not a certified payment device. PCI and EMV compliance belong to your payment app and its certified reader. Our hardware provides the display, touch, CPU, storage and optional NFC or card reader, but we do not claim the terminal itself is PCI approved.

Common questions

Can the i8 run both Android and Windows 10?

The i8 spec table lists Android and win10 as supported operating systems. You choose one per order. We build the unit with the OS image you select. If your rollout needs both, you would order separate batches or ask us about a dual-boot image during the RFQ stage. We do not ship a unit that switches between the two at runtime.

What peripherals are included with the i8?

The page data lists optional parts: scanner, card reader, barcode reader, IC card reader, barcode printer and camera. The i8 also has a built-in QR scanner and 58 mm printer listed under hardware, plus an 8 MP camera. However, we do not assume any peripheral is included unless you list it in your inquiry. Tell us exactly which ones you need and we will confirm the BOM.

Is the i8 suitable for outdoor use?

The i8 page data does not list an outdoor rating or IP code. It is a metal case with toughened glass, intended for indoor retail and self-service kiosks. If you need weather resistance, ask us about our rugged Android tablets or outdoor LED display line instead. We do not claim the i8 can handle rain, dust or direct sunlight without additional enclosure work by your integrator.
